8th August 2024:- Strength and Conditioning Day!

Today it is all about building the strength in my legs….. I certainly notice the difference in my legs. I know we should be kind about our bodies but sometimes it does make me wonder how on earth I can do some of the sports that I play when I struggle to do a split squat!

The workout started with the dreaded ‘Split Squat’… OMG…. my knee is so weak on both sides… They used to be so much stronger when I was doing these on a regular basis as part of my rehabilitation after my 4 knee operations in 1! You know me… I like to be different! Lessons learnt:- if you don’t use it you lose it. I start on my biontic knee and I was struggling with it so I was dreading trying it the other side. It felt as though my knee was going to give way on me the whole time. As I was going down it was making some really strange noises (a mixture of squeaky floorboards and coco-pops!) The whole of my leg was wobbling from side to side and then it was as though a DJ is scratching a record as it was stop/starting the movement! In the end I decided I would swap the Split Squat for just a plain good old squat. I have since dug out the good old trusted TRX so that when I have to do it again… I will feel confident that I have support and will not end on the floor. Mind you there are no promises that this won’t happen!!

Single Leg Glute Bridge Hold:- Again I am sooooo wobbly with this exercise but I know the more I do it, the stronger I will get. The last time. I had to do it, it was so much easier as it was a plain old simple Glute Bridge!

Single Calf Raise… Again…. this was a one sided thing! No wonder I kept wiping out people when I was getting of the ski lift.. I would literally wipe out everyone to the left side of me….. It was only on the last day did I even think about moving to the left hand-side of the seat.

Back to my S&C session…. Kneeling Side Plank with leg raise…. wahoo something I can do without too many issues!! Then a favourite Dead Bug.. Not sure if it is the actual exercise I like or the name of it!!

Two sets and I am done… It did say I could go for the third.. but I am terrible as it was optional:- I opted out!
